In a significant stride towards promoting ecological awareness and action rooted in theology, Don Bosco School of Theology recently completed the inaugural run of its Laudato Si’ Certified Environmental Trainer program. This pioneering initiative, spanning 80 hours of comprehensive training, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for environmental stewardship within their respective communities.
The program, which concluded on October 14, 2023, comprised three distinct components, each essential in fostering a holistic understanding of environmental issues and solutions. With 20 hours dedicated to theological exploration, another 20 to ecological studies, and a substantial 40-hour segment focused on technological interventions, participants received a well-rounded education tailored to address multifaceted environmental challenges.
Heralded as a collaborative effort between theological, ecological, and technological disciplines, the Laudato Si’ Certified Environmental Trainer program attracted 36 participants from various schools across Metro Manila. This diverse cohort brought together individuals passionate about integrating their faith with a profound commitment to environmental conservation.
The theological component delved deep into the rich teachings of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ groundbreaking encyclical on the environment. Through engaging discussions and reflective exercises, participants explored the theological underpinnings of ecological stewardship, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all creation and humanity’s moral obligation to protect and preserve our planet.
Complementing the theological dimension, the ecological segment provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of environmental issues, including biodiversity loss, climate change, and resource depletion.
